Overview
GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease, occurs when stomach acid, or bile, frequently refluxes back into the esophagus. According to the Montreal definition, GERD is defined as a condition that develops when the reflux of stomach contents causes troublesome symptoms and/or complications.1Heartburn and GERD statistics
